Appearance & Personality
A pallid skinned slender figure of Ilsabardian descent, Ivantis kir Sabellius is always neat and well groomed. He speaks with an air of elegance, and walks with an upright posture most of the time. He is incredibly vain, and has an impeccable image of himself that he tries to always uphold.Possessing distinctive, narrow features, high cheekbones and a sharp jawline, his overall appearance is accentuated by dark rings of exhaustion that hover below his eyes. Sunken cheeks also make his countenance appear somewhat famished, though such things could also be attributed to his genetics all the same. His thick dark hair is always neatly combed and slicked back, and his voice has been described as rough but elegant, holding a distinctive guttural drawl to it. His voice has been described as rough but elegant, holding a guttural drawl. He has a very charming manner of speech, but there's a certain emptiness behind his voice, even when he is being genuine, making his intentions sometimes difficult to determine. It's as if he is always planning some sort of scheme. He is approximately 6'1", marking him as rather short for an elezen male, with a long-limbed, lanky appearance that still measures him above most other races. Fitting for a man with a Napoleonic superiority complex as big as his own.
Full History
Ivantis Sabellius was born alongside his older sister of two years in the Garlean countryside, just beyond the capital. His parents, dissuaded by the first Emperor's decree of expansionism and the new government's jingoist values, deserted the Empire, and left their respective families behind. This was much to the chagrin of the boy's pureblood grandfather, Amatus nan Sabellius. The man had high hopes for his newborn grandson to follow in his footsteps as a magitek engineer, something that his own half-elezen son had failed to do.Ivantis' parents, Franciscus and Irène, left the region and settled in the Brume of Ishgard when the boy was but an infant. His name was slightly modified to fit Ishgardian standards, and he was given the elezen name "Ivaunt Sibelius" to avoid local persecution in Coerthas. With no knowledge of his life as an infant in the Garlean countryside, the boy grew up ignorant to the Garlean side of his ancestry.Ivaunt's father, a former civil engineer, found employ as a blacksmith in the Foundation, and his mother assisted by working part-time as a florist. Often, the boy's father would bring home small engineering projects that he had scrapped, and that is what Ivaunt would frequently use to entertain himself, finding a knack for tinkering with spare parts in place of actual toys, and pretending to build engineering wonders with his imagination.

They barely scraped by for fifteen years, and though they were content with their meagre lot in life, tragedy would soon strike. Ivaunt's mother, Irène, was diagnosed with a debilitating illness. As her condition worsened dramatically over the course of only a year, unable to pay for health care with their meagre income, the woman was soon bedridden, and her husband became distant, developing a problem with alcohol and having his hours cut at work as a result. It would not take long for Franciscus to be unable to bear the weight of watching his wife's steady decline any longer, and with a heavy heart, and a guilty conscience, the man shamefully abandoned his family.Though quality of life was on a steady decline for Ivaunt and his family in Ishgard, back in Garlemald, his grandfather Amatus had finally made a breakthrough. Several years prior, he begun investigating the family's whereabouts in order to locate and return his grandson to the Empire, intent on having his name and legacy cemented. The man was adamant, and his persistence had paid off, as clues soon directed his search to the Holy See. Though he could not make the journey himself, he made the request of an elezen Frumentarius, his own brother-in-law, to venture to Ishgard and find his grandson. At the ages of 16 and 18 respectively, Ivaunt and his sister were on their way to the market to pick up specialty medical supplies for their mother when the agent sent by his grandfather discovered their whereabouts and garnered their attention. The elezen man introduced himself as Angelus, and claimed to know their grandfather. Though the two were wary at first, the man soon produced a pair of old photographs that eventually had them convinced that he was telling the truth.

First, a photo of the pair's grandfather, Amatus: a garlean man who married an elezen woman, in turn giving birth to their father. More pressingly however, the two were then shown a photograph of the entire family together, including their very own parents. It was difficult to deny this evidence, even for a pair of young teens who had never seen a photograph before. The two were given a choice, to stay here in Ishgard when their mother passed, or to return to Garlemald under the care of their grandfather.Once that day arrived, and the two were found orphans, Ivaunt and his sister had conflicting opinions. Though he was convinced by Angelus that he was destined for greater things in the distant Empire, his sister was less so. She was convinced that despite their Ilsabardian heritage, they were Eorzean at heart, having grown up in the heart of Ishgard's Brume. Inversely, Ivaunt had grown to loathe the way they were treated by nobles and the Temple Knights, even having what little they had stolen by other unfortunates who lived in the downtrodden district. Lured by promise of a better life and his great-uncle's claim that Garleans were of a superior moral fiber, Ivaunt left his sister in Ishgard, and travelled with Angelus back to Garlemald.Once Ivaunt arrived in Ilsabard, fortune seemed to find him quickly. His grandfather was a fairly well-known magitek engineer, a first generation Architectus, who took brilliantly to working with magitek almost as soon as it was introduced to the populace. As such, it was only fitting that his grandson be granted a place in the renowned magitek academy.During his time at the academy, Ivaunt, now once again going by Ivantis Sabellius at Amatus' behest, quickly learned to read and write, and developed an aptitude in the field of aetherochemical science and magitek weaponry. Though Amatus held pride in his grandson's advancements, he would never be able to attend his graduation ceremony, as duty would soon assign him to another Legion, one that would be subsequently shipped off to a land mass disconnected from the Three Great Continents.Ivantis graduated from a full stint in the academy, and like most young men in the Empire, he was immediately drafted to join the militum. He soon found himself assigned to the XIVth Legion in Gyr Abania as an Architectus, a junior field engineer, and served in the Battle of Silvertear Skies. When the XIVth retreated to Ala Mhigo following the battle, Ivantis would not set foot in Eorzea beyond Baelsar's Wall for another fifteen years. While most of the XIVth sallied into Eorzea resulting in Gaius van Baelsar's alleged death in the Praetorium, Ivantis luckily remained in Gyr Abania during this time, and was transferred to the XIIth Legion after the XIVth was scattered.Over two decades, the young and amiable elezen had his moral code surgically and meticulously gutted by his superiors. On one occasion, a group of rebelling Ala Mhigans were defeated by his squadron, and during the conflict, it was noted by the Decurion that Ivantis never once pulled the trigger on his weapon. In response, the Decurion demanded that he execute the surrendering rebels. The young man refused, and was physically forced to aim his gun and fire on the captives.Though it took some time, Ivantis grew hard and calloused, able to mute his clemency for the local Gyr Abanians. The rowdy populace did not earn itself any favors during his service, though of course, they were within their right to show out against their oppressors. Ivantis was taught that this was simply their own form of 'savagery' and 'barbarism' come to play out. He was taught that their eikon, Rhalgar, was a 'god' of Destruction, and the Ala Mhigans and their mad king reveled in the chaotic practice. It was hammered into him that Garlemald occupied these lands to bring order to the lawless, savage land of Eorzea, and through these lessons, he learned the weight behind such a word, perceiving it as an accurate descriptor of anyone who refuted the Empire's order.

Over twenty years of uninterrupted service in Gyr Abania, he had spent time in the field, and in the laboratories of Castrum Abania, where he was privy to many of the Castrum's super-soldier projects, including hyper tuning and magitek enhancements. Ivantis was eventually plucked from Gyr Abania, and was finally able to return to Garlemald. It was there he worked to assist in reproduction efforts of the aetherochemical bioweapon known as Black Rose. His work on the project only lasted about a year before the most recent Garlean civil war. When Black Rose facilities in the capital were attacked, Ivantis heard rumor from a group of fellow Architectii that the culprits were targeting scientists who worked on the gas specifically. As a result, he and a group of others fled the capital, finding the conflict between the Ist and IIIrd Legions too volatile to stick around. By the time he had reached Gyr Abania, he learned that Ala Mhigo had fallen to the Eorzean Alliance, and by that point, it was too late to turn back, as fighting had begun in Ghimlyt, and there was no chance he would make it through the region again unscathed.Miraculously, the elezen managed to make it all the way to the Black Shroud before he was uncovered, but mercifully perhaps, it was not by an Alliance patrol. A stubborn miqo'te woman named Lindeyvia Phai'kru learned of his true affiliations, and he was blackmailed by her as a result. For a time, he begrudgingly found himself under her employ. He found her extremely vexing, though her wit and sharp tongue surprised and heckled him on numerous occasions, and he soon learned of a softer and more vulnerable side to her. Refusing to admit to himself that he found her as charming as he secretly did, he attempted to shunt his feelings for her, but he soon found himself on an irreversible downward spiral into hyper-fixation.Ivantis used his employment as cover to avoid prosecution and trial from the Alliance, and during this time, he suffered a relegation to return to field duty. As the XIIth Legion's presence in the west was shattered, he was subsequently transferred to the IIIrd Imperial Legion, and instructed to return to Garlemald to assist in the civil war against the Ist, though these orders, perhaps mercifully, would arrive too late for him to follow them.In his time away from Garlemald, the Ilsabardian elezen betrothed and subsequently married Lindeyvia, the same miqo'te woman that had blackmailed him a year or so prior. Some might call it stockholm syndrome, though he would deny it, and place the blame on her stubborn personality, sharp intellect, and ethereal beauty instead. In their time spent together, he has grown madly in love with her, and wouldn't trade her company for the world.

Ivantis avoided tempering by remaining in Eorzea until Garlemald was occupied by the arrival of the Ilsabard Contingent of the Alliance. He has returned to "active duty" in what remains of the IIIrd Legion, assisting the reconstruction effort in the ruins of the capital city since then. With the intent to start a family with his wife however, he has been spending a lot of his time acquiring a healthy living in the city-states of Eorzea through various means... legitimate or not.
OOC Information
Hello! I go by Sibelius or "Sibs" out-of-character, but you can call me by my in-game name too! My discord handle is sibblesnbits.(tl;dr at the bottom.)I have roleplayed for nearly 20 years, and started on World of Warcraft during Wrath of the Lich King. For ten years, Moon Guard-US Horde side was my home. I was the co-leader of a Forsaken-only RP guild for quite some time.I started on FFXIV about 7 years ago during the Stormblood expansion, and fell in love with Garlean themed RP ever since. Ivantis is my main character, and as such, in addition to consuming any Garlean lore I can get my hands on, I invest the most time and effort into his character development and story. On that note, I adore lore-abiding roleplay, and seek others who follow the lore closely as well. It is fine to be malleable with the lore and have your own headcanons, and I am flexible in terms of playing into them for the sake of the scene, but I will draw the line if you are the Emperor's son or daughter and my character will not believe yours if you make that fact known IC.Ivantis has been known to be abrasive at times, and even though he may put on a façade of formality, can be very unempathetic toward others, especially Eorzeans. He is a serious and vain character, but I would stress that his IC feelings over a given subject do not equate to my own. I'm a rather silly guy OOC, and I love memes. Please send me memes. (Or pictures of your cats.)Quick Notes:
▶ Tl;dr of above:
• 15+ years of RP experience. 5+ years on FFXIV.
• Love lore-abiding RP, but flexible to certain themes.
• Ivantis can be mean. I am not. IC does not equal OOC.▶ My Time Zone is EST.▶ If RP combat happens, I'm open to free-flow combat, but rolling is likely the safer and fairer option.▶ Ivantis is married and monogomous. I am not looking for romance roleplay or ERP.▶ I like plot-focused RP and social interaction. Themes surrounding Garlemald in any capacity, military, societal, or casual, it doesn't matter.▶ Feel free to message me in-game or on discord at any time, and if I have the RP tag on in-game, you're free to walk-up as well!
